'Merry Christmas, you're fired!' chant unemployed protesters at Rockefeller Center tree lighting

'Merry Christmas, you're fired!' chant unemployed protesters at Rockefeller Center tree lighting: "'Just in time for Christmas, people are going to lose their only lifeline that's let them hold onto a semblance of the life they knew,' said an organizer, Sam Talbot, 33, of the East Village.

'We want to remind people there's a serious crisis going on.'

Carrying signs that said, 'Keep the Lights on for the Unemployed' and 'We Need Jobs Not Another Korean War,' about 40 protesters threaded their way among the throngs on Fifth Ave.

Many wore Santa hats and sang, 'Lost my job and benefits, so I got no more pay - hey,' a bitter re-write of 'Jingle Bells.'

Unemployment benefits began expiring Tuesday for workers who've been unemployed for more than 26 weeks."
